As environmental protection and recycling become more important, dumping and recycling charges and taxes will be used to control environmental pollution in the future. For the plant owner, this means an increase in the decommissioning costs. 

The analysis of complex matrices, such as natural products, food products, environmental pollutants and fossil fuels, is today a very important area of separation science. The latest developments in chromatographic techniques have yielded highly efficient systems, used with specific detectors to obtain high selectivity and or sensitivity. 

More recently, with the end of the Cold War, there has been a reduction in their stockpiles, in keeping with arms reduction treaties. At the same time, it has come to light that badly disposed canisters containing chemical weapons and originating from World War II are still around, for example, in some areas of the Baltic Sea. Thns, qnestions have been asked about their possible importance as environmental pollutants. 

Herbicides constitute a large and diverse class of pesticides that, with a few exceptions, have very low mammalian toxicity and have received relatively little attention as environmental pollutants. Much of the work in the held of ecotoxicology and much environmental risk assessment has focused on animals, especially vertebrate animals. There has perhaps been a tendency to overlook the importance of plants in the natural world. Most plants belong to the lowest trophic levels of ecosystems, and animals in higher trophic levels are absolutely dependent on them for their survival.

The reaction of metabolically generated polycyclic aromatic diol epoxides with DNA Ua vivo is believed to be an important and critical event in chemical carcinogenesis Cl,2). In recent years, much attention has been devoted to studies of diol epoxide-nucleic acid interactions in aqueous model systems. The most widely studied reactive intermediate is benzo(a)pyrene-7,8-diol-9,10-epoxide (BaPDE), which is the ultimate biologically active metabolite of the well known and ubiquitous environmental pollutant benzo(a)pyrene. There are four different stereoisomers of BaPDE (Figure 1) which are characterized by differences in biological activities, and reactivities with DNA (2-4). In this review, emphasis is placed on studies of reaction mechanisms of BPDE and related compounds with DNA, and the structures of the adducts formed. 

Because of these important properties, a future application of HS can be expected as protecting agents for the prevention or at least limitation of genetic damages that may be caused by genotoxic environmental pollutants in plants, and also in microorganisms, animals, and even humans. 

The analyses of questionnaires shows that some parents (49%) had a low level of ecological knowledge and they did not use any prevention of the environmental dysadaptation syndrome. Meanwhile, it is very important to diagnose this syndrome and to prevent that various diseases occur on caused by this background. It is also very important to increase the educational effort toward familiarizing the population with the consequences of the influence of environmental pollutants on human organism.
