Engineers creativity

In the conclusion we should say that the chemistry of synthetic elementorganic polymers is a young science and still has a lot to discover. The possibilities of elementorganic polymer chemistry, and consequently of their production development, are truly unlimited. If originally synthetic polymers appeared as a result of emulating natural compounds and as their substitutes, nowadays we have many polymers which resulted from scientific and engineering creativity and have no counterparts in nature. [Pg.14]

The method is the first attempt to acquire and use knowledge in order to produce novel design concepts. When it is properly introduced, it provides a knowledge-based framework for engineering creativity. Therefore, it is an excellent introduction to other more difficult methods that are also knowledge based. Thus, it teaches inventive engineers how to approach inventive problems from the knowledge perspective. [Pg.185]

The best way to motivate the future Synectors is to teach them about human and engineering creativity and its impact on the evolution of our civilization, on individual societies, and on the engineering profession. It must become clear that engineering creativity is the driving force behind progress in modern societies and the key to survival of nations in the international industrial competition. Also, it is the passport to personal fame and fortune for engineers who become inventors. [Pg.272]

The roots of TRIZ may be found in Altshuller s original studies of engineering creativity, that is, patents. In the 1940s (1945-1950) he worked in the patent office at the headquarters of the Soviet fleet stationed in Baku. This time period could be called Experiential Learning or Initial... [Pg.290]

It may be noted that even the small-scale hardware details like design of feed nozzles or weirs and reactor internals (cooling coils, baffles, etc.) may have dramatic influence on reactor performance. The issues of scale-up and scale-down may have to be resolved by following an iterative methodology. Knowledge of requirements of process chemistry, engineering creativity,... [Pg.138]

Central themes specific to engineering creativity include originality (novelty) (Shah et al. 2003 Thompson and Lordan 1999 Weisberg 1999) and usefulness (applicability) (Larson et al. 1999 Shah et al. 2003 Thompson and Lordan 1999). [Pg.19]

Both problem finding and problem solving are relevant to an engineer s creativity however, these attributes have not been specifically measured traditionally and in engineering creativity. Such attributes need to be assessed and further developed by appropriate educational intervention activities (Cropley and Cropley 2005). [Pg.19]

In engineering, creativity requires originality, adaptiveness, problem solving (Weisberg 1986, 1999), and usefulness (Larson et al. 1999 Nickerson 1999). [Pg.21]

Unlike previous measures, the revised CEDA also measures originality and usefulness, which, to date, is a unique component when compared to other general creativity and engineering creativity measures. [Pg.21]

Correlations between the CEDA and other engineering creativity and spatial measures were conducted to establish convergent validity. The CEDA was moderately correlated with the PCT (r = 0.39, p < 0.01) and slightly correlated with the Purdue Visualization Spatial Test-Rotations (PVST-R) (r — 0.19, p < 0.05). The CEDA, including usefulness in the formula of assessment, demonstrated similar results. The CEDA with usefulness was moderately correlated with the... [Pg.30]

The CEDA has advantages over previous measures of engineering creativity. Important components of engineering design include usefiilness, functionality (Cropley and Cropley 2005 Nickerson 1999), problem finding, and problem solving (Runco 1994). The CEDA systematically assesses these essential components and cognitive processes. [Pg.73]
