Engineering-Philosophy

Engineering is customarily divided into a number of different branches such that each one of these domain has many subdivisions, and especially, on the engineering side the boundaries between the subdivisions are almost impermeable and each specialization thinks that it is a confined compartment that serves to its members only (Chap. 2, Fig. 2.3). Similar pattern is also valid on the philosophy side, but with the boundaries that are not as rigid and impermeable as engineering. However, even after such subdivisions the knowledge exchange is not possible let along between the two islands but also between any two subdivisions. The purpose of this text is to attempt to fill that gap. It is based, in large part, upon engineering philosophies and approaches I have developed during my career to solve numerous design problems. The text is broken into six general areas, each of which is bound together by a common technical thread. 

Project engineering philosophy divided into major subjects. 

The next assumption, No. 11, may be considered as an extension of the previous one. However, it is much more general and represents a fundamental departure from traditional engineering philosophy. The core of this philosophy is the use of rational or deductive thinking, which usually results in feasible solutions that are everything but ridiculous or meaningless and are usually complete. 

The engineer s creed, which was adopted by NSPE in 1954, is a statement of belief, similar to the Hippocratic oath taken by medical practitioners. It was developed to state the engineering philosophy of service in a brief way. The NSPE engineer s creed is ...

These new demands ask for a new coastal and ocean engineering philosophy based on new design principles, considering the socioeconomic and environmental impact of the human intervention during its useful life. However, coastal and ocean engineering must deal with the environmental events, and their random nature. Thus, the response to the problem has to include the associated uncertainty, among others, to the occurrence of the atmospheric and maritime agents.

Different subdivisions in the philosophy can be brought together by considering the following points and their mixtures to a certain extent [16]. He mentioned about the following steps as for the importance of engineering philosophy.
