Engineering career

The role of the instructor in this type of course should be that of a insultant and guide. The course may not necessarily emphasize any jw scientific or engineering principles, but it should present ample oppor-inity to apply that which is already known. The student should be eated as if he already were a technically trained man on the job, as he had been adequately educated and had the essential ability to assume le entire responsibility for his success in a chemical engineering career. 

Much has been made of the impetus to pursuing science and engineering careers that was generated by the launch of Sputnik in October 1957. And many have attempted to fashion a similar call to action based on our national economic security. However, when one looks at the production of bachelor s level engineers, on a population normalized basis, it appears that the Sputnik phenomenon had little impact on engineering study. Of the 516 undergraduate engineering majors who answered the question and ventured an opinion, about 17 of every 20 (86.1%) indicated they expected to face ethical issues or conflicts in their engineering careers. But how well did respondents believe that their education had prepared them to deal thoughtfully...
