Energy Improvement Options Under Evaluation

In the site wide energy optimization project, five energy improvement ideas among many others were generated and evaluated at stand-alone basis. The benefits and capital costs for these improvement ideas are given in Table 20.1. These assessment results were obtained at the process ISBL. [Pg.426]

There are three boiler forced draft (FD) fans, which are run by medium-pressme to low-pressure (MP-LP) extraction turbines currently with motors in spare. It was identified that motor driving is more economical than turbine due to relatively low electricity price. Based on steam marginal pricing, it is estimated that if one fan can be switched to motor, the benefit would be 738,144 per year. The cost savings would be 2.2MM/year if three fans could be switched to motors. [Pg.426]

DETERMINE THE TRUE BENEFIT FROM THE OSBL CONTEXT [Pg.428]

A yield improvement option was identified from the hydrocracking unit (HCU) as a part of the energy optimization project. It was found that a large amount of diesel was lost into the unconverted oil due to poor fractionation efficiency in the main fractionators. To recover this lost diesel with an estimated value of 12 MM/year, a new stripper column will be installed. The stripper column will require stripping LP steam of 150t/day costing 1.0 MM per year. The cost for related piping would be estimated as part of HCU revamp project [Pg.428]


Refrigerators and freezers account for about 20% of the total electricity consumption of household appliances. For this reason the appliance industry is under pressure to improve the energy efficiency of their products to cope with the need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, as recently mandated by the Kyoto Conference. This objective has to be achieved without penalising product performance. Several options to decrease the energy consumption are under evaluation, ranging from high efficiency compressors to the adoption of intelligent electronic devices [57, 58, 59]. [Pg.199]
