It is only in the past decade that the level of interest in these peculiar structures has increased, due to the hypothesis of a relevant role of G-quad-ruplex structures in key biological processes and recent demonstrations of their existence in vivo G-quartets may now have applications in areas ranging from supramolecular chemistry to medicinal chemistry (for a recent review see ref. 15). Quadruplex DNA is an excellent module for the design of devices for nanotechnology and guanine-rich sequences are also likely to form higher order structures such as synapsable DNA or G-wires.  [Pg.31]
