Endurance properties

Fire endurance properties are always measured directly on finished products, and are specific for a particular application.

Flexibilizers generally cannot be used to counteract internal stress in high temperature adhesive because of their relatively low glass transition temperature and thermal endurance properties. However, most high-temperature adhesive systems incorporate metallic fillers (generally aluminum powder) to reduce the coefficient of thermal expansion and degree of shrinkage.

Ultraviolet stability measured before and after UV exposure. The loss in strength is reported as the per cent strength retention of the fabric (also referred as endurance property). 

Endurance properties focus on how short-term properties are affected by time during the service life of the facility. Issues of endurance arise as the material is installed, while the load is sustained, and while fluid flow is experienced (Perkins, 2007) (Table 12.3). 

Structural adhesives based on epoxy resins were first introduced in 1950 and their use has grown steadily since. Epoxy resins are reactive with a number of different curing agents and yield a wide variety of products with different cure requirements and end-use performance. Epoxy resins cure with no evolution of byproducts, have low shrinkage and adhere to many different substrates. Although epoxy adhesives represent only a small part of the total adhesives market, they are unequalled in performance where high strength and endurance properties are critical. 

In a consideration of the people involved in this initial effort, too many names come to mind to list all of them, for fear of leaving some out. When the subcommittee was formed, four subsections were set up. In addition to section leaders and the subcommittee chairperson, a subcommittee secretary was appointed. Endurance properties Reinforced soil stmctures may afford a design life from a few months (for temporary stmctures) to 120 years (for permanent stmctures). Hence endurance is of concern. ASTM D5819 and ISO TR 13429 provide guidelines for selecting appropriate endurance test methods.
