Elemental ternary

All the solutions which are necessary to form an equilateral triangular llxllxll, 61-element ternary phase diagram were prepared automatically by a liquid dispensing machine. Mixtures with compositions of each component ranged from 0 to 100% in 10% increments. On the 3 in quartz wafer used, 144 wells form a 12 x 12 square grid for the catalyst spots. Each of these elements has a diameter of 3 mm. The whole array is calcined at 500 °C for 12 h and subsequently for an additional 12 h at 800 °C under a 6% H2 in argon atmosphere [80],... [Pg.459]

The condition is satisfied for ZnO and later oxides of 4th row elements. Since the M4s interactions are strongest in ZnO, it is the best candidate for transparent oxide conductors among binary oxides of 4th row elements. Ternary or more complicated oxides may be analyzed in the same manner considering the balance of two factors 1) the band-gap and 2) the M-M interactions. An effort to design new transparent oxide conductor is in progress by the combination of experiments and molecular orbital calculations for lnGaZn04 and its derivatives by Orita, the present author and others(7). [Pg.223]

A ternary compound consists of three elements. Ternary acids (oxoacids) are compounds of hydrogen, oxygen, and (usually) a nonmetal. Nonmetals that exhibit more than one oxidation state form more than one ternary acid. These ternary acids differ in the number of oxygen atoms they contain. The suffixes -ous and -ic following the stem name of the central element indicate lower and higher oxidation states, respectively. One common ternary acid of each nonmetal is (somewhat arbitrarily) designated as the -ic acid. That is, it is named by putting the element stem before the -ic suffix. The common ternary -ic acids are shown in Table 4-16. It is important to learn the names and formulas of these acids, because the names of all other ternary acids and salts are derived from them. There are no common -ic ternary acids for the omitted nonmetals. [Pg.165]

Compounds made up of two elements only are called binary compounds those consisting of three elements, ternary compounds those containing four elements, quatemeuy compounds, etc. [Pg.31]
