Electroplating Method

De La Rive invented a new -> electroplating method to deposit gold onto brass and silver, and designed one of the first incandescent lamps using a platinum filament in a partially evacuated glass tube. He also designed an electrochemical - capacitor (condenser), 1843.

Reactions (12.43) and (12.44) take place simultaneously, but in practice only about one-third of the hypophosphite is utilised as in (12.44). The plating rate depends very much on temperature (which is often raised to near boil), and on pH (the rate at pH 5 is five times the rate at pH 3.5). The nickel deposit is less porous than that obtained by conventional electroplating methods and plating thickness is not affected by the shape of the article. Electroless plating has the great advantage that surfaces inside inaccessible cavities receive an even deposit of the metal. 

The mesh was fabricated in nickel using photolithography and a two-stage electroplating method.

With the use of a high-speed electroplating method (at currents above the limiting current density), Peled and Ulus" were able to produce two nanosize tin-antimony alloys. The first, with low antimony content, had higher reversible capacity (up to 700 mAh/g), a lower irreversible capacity, a better rate... 

In the first part of this section of starting experiments with IPMC actuator, basics of ionic polymer used for IPMC, electroplating method, and fabrication of IPMC device including deforming ionic polymer and patterning electrode are described. Since details of ionic polymers and plating methods are described in the preceding chapters, this part describes only a summary of them. 

The electroplating method uses electric currents to deposit a layer on the surface of the bipolar plates immersed in an aqueous metallic ion bath.
