In this section, we will discuss general optimization methods. Our example is the geometry optimization problem, i.e., the minimization of (q). A good monograph discussing the use and applications of AEM, especially at intermediate voltages. The discussion on EDS is an excellent primer for using X-ray analysis on a TEM.

Lever, A. B. P. (1984). Inorganic Electronic Spectroscopy, 2nd ed. Elsevier, New York. A monograph that treats all aspects of absorption spectra of complexes at a high level. This is perhaps the most through treatment available in a single volume. Highly recommended.
