Electromechanical method

Electromechanical methods have also been employed to study the mechanism of corrosion fatigue. If the potential changes occurring at the surface of the specimen during corrosion fatigue are recorded, three stages of corrosion are found for steels with an active surface. 

Experimental A photometric method was found in the literature which seemed to suit the particular circumstances. Two cyanide stock solutions were prepared, and an electromechanical dispenser was used to precisely prepare solutions of 20, 40,. .., 240 respectively 10, 30, 50,. .., 250 fig CN /100 ml. 10 ml of each calibration solution were added to 90 ml of the color-forming reagent solution and the absorbance was measured using 1-cm cuvettes. The Thomas-Hoover apparatus (Fig. 36) is the electromechanical equivalent of the Thiele tube or open beaker and hot oil methods (see Using the Thiele Tube ). It has lots of features, and you should look for the following.

Touch sensitive screens are another mechanism for indicating a choice of items on the screen. It is a course device, with the limit to its resolution governed by the size of a finger, rather than electromechanical constraints in the previous devices. The method of interaction is to point to and/or touch the object or menu item on the screen. 

In addition to the mechanical method described there are also electromechanical measuring techniques in which the impact pressure is recorded by an oscillograph with the aid of a piezoquartz crystal. 

As a result of the imperfections inherent in all electromechanical and electrical devices, true linearity is a hypothetical concept, and practical detectors can only approach this ideal response. Consequently, it is essential for the analyst to have some measure of detector linearity that can be given in numerical terms. Such a specification would allow quantitative comparison between detectors and indicate how close the response of the detector was to true linearity. Fowlis and Scott [1] proposed a simple method for measuring detector linearity. They assumed that for an approximately linear detector, the response can be described by the power function...
