Electric strength flux

Electroultrafiltration has been demonstrated on clay suspensions, electrophoretic paints, protein solutions, oil—water emulsions, and a variety of other materials. Flux improvement is proportional to the appHed electric field E up to some field strength E where particle movement away from the membrane is equal to the Hquid flow toward the membrane. There is no gel-polarization layer and (in theory) flux equals the theoretical permeate flux. It... [Pg.299]

At electric-field strengths greater than flux is proportional to AP up to the critical pressure P where E becomes E (Fig. 12). [Pg.300]

FIG. 22-29 Qualitative effects of Reynolds number and applied-electric-field strength on the filtration permeate flux J. Dashed lines indicate large particles (radial migration dominates) solid lines, small particles (particle diffusion dominates). [Pg.2010]

Table 1.1 Conjugate pairs of variables in work terms for the fundamental equation for the internal energy U. Here/is force of elongation, Z is length in the direction of the force, <7 is surface tension, As is surface area, , is the electric potential of the phase containing species i, qi is the contribution of species i to the electric charge of a phase, E is electric field strength, p is the electric dipole moment of the system, B is magnetic field strength (magnetic flux density), and m is the magnetic moment of the system. The dots indicate scalar products of vectors. Table 1.1 Conjugate pairs of variables in work terms for the fundamental equation for the internal energy U. Henry et al (23) have collected experimental data on cross-flow electro-filtration of Kaolin clay suspensions and oil-water emulsions. Since both the Kaolin particles and the oil droplets are negatively charged in aqueous suspensions, a direct electric field will always give higher filtration rates than cross-flow filtration alone. The level of improvement depends on the intensity of the fluid shear and the electric-field strength. Figures 47 and 48 present data for the Increase in flux with electric field strength for the oil-water emulsion and the clay suspension. [Pg.439]
