Elastomers vulcanizates

Finally, it is instructive to compare the temperature effect on the tensile strength of the SBS and SIS block polymers. As noted previously (Figure 6) the tensile strength of an elastomer vulcanizate can be related to the difference between the test temperature and the Tg of the elastomer, in accordance with the viscoelastic theory of tensile strength. Since the Tg values for polyisoprene ( — 65°C) and polybutadiene ( —95°C) differ... [Pg.517]

The oil swelhng resistance of silicone elastomer vulcanizates is similar to that of chlo-roprene rubber vulcanizates. Sihcone elastomers are resistant to certain heat transfer fluids but not to motor fuels, chlorinated hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, and ethers. [Pg.277]

The most important characteristic of silicone elastomer vulcanizates is their maintenance of physical properties over a large temperature range. General purpose material is serviceable over the approximate range —50 to 200°C but both ends of the range may be extended by the use of special purpose compounds. When elastomers are exposed to air at temperatures above 200°C, cross-linking and embrittlement slowly occur in the absence of air chain scission and softening predominate (cf., fluids). [Pg.366]

Some of the key properties of PAREL elastomer vulcanizates are summarized in Table I. They have excellent low teiqierature properties excellent dynamic properties, which are much like those of natural rubber good ozone resistance and good heataging resistance. This interesting combination of properties is leading to substantial specialty markets in such applications as automotive engine mounts. Vulcanization and stabilization studies on PAREL elastomer, as well as additional specific properties of PAREL elastomer, are reported in this book by Boss. [Pg.103]
