Effluent Refrigerated Sulfuric Acid

Two licensors now offer sulfuric acid alkylation units. The one with the higher market share is Stratco, with its Effluent Refrigerated Sulfuric Acid Alkylation... [Pg.300]

Sulfuric acid alkylation also is used. In addition to the type of acid catalyst used, the processes differ in the way of producing the emulsion, increasing the interfacial surface for the reaction. There also are important differences in the manner in which the heat of reaction is removed. Often, a refrigerated cascade reactor is used. In other designs, a portion of the reactor effluent is vaporized by pressure reduction to provide cooling for the reactor. [Pg.55]

Important aviation and motor alkylate gasoline processes are the jet-type sulfuric acid process, the Kellogg sulfuric acid autoref rigeration process, the UOP hydrofluoric acid process, and the Stratford effluent refrigeration process. Petrochemical alkylation includes various processes using as catalysts solid phosphoric acid, aluminum chloride, hydrofluoric acid, boron trifluoride, and phenol and ether complexes of boron trifluoride (1). [Pg.166]

Sublimation is the transfer of a substance from the solid to the gaseous state without formation of an intermediate liquid phase, usually at a relatively high vacuum. Major applications have been in the removal of a volatile component from an essentially nonvolatile one separation of sulfur from impurities, purification of benzoic acid, and freeze drying of foods, for example. The reverse process, desublimation (16), is also practiced, for example in the recovery of phthalic anhydride from reactor effluent. The most common application of sublimation in everyday life is the use of dry ice as a refrigerant for storing ice cream, vegetables and other perishables. The sublimed gas, unlike water, does not puddle and spoil the frozen materials. [Pg.20]
