Efficiency module

The capacity of a collector is expressed in terms of its peak power production (Wp). This is the amount of electric power that a PV module is able to generate when it receives 1,000 watts per square meter of vertical solar irradiation at 25°C cell temperature. This is also called one sun. If this level of insolation existed for 24 h every day of the year, each m2 of collector area would receive 8,760 kWh/yr. The actual rate of power generation is naturally less. The value of Wp/ m2 of a module is also called its power density or efficiency. Therefore a 10% efficient module when receiving one sun will generate 0.1 kWp/m2 and a 15% will generate 0.15 kWp/m2. [Pg.97]

The power output of solar modules is expressed in terms of their "peak" power output (Wp). This is the amount of electric power that a module generates when it receives 1.0 kW/m2 of vertical solar irradiation at 25°C module temperature (also called one sun). Therefore, a 10% efficient module receiving one sun, will produce 100 Wp/m2. If this solar irradiation exists for 8 hours per day, this module will generate 0.8 kWh/m2/day. Naturally both the number of sunny hours of the day and the intensity of insolation vary (see Figures 1.29 and 1.30 and www.bpsolar.com). In addition the angle of irradiation and/or cell temperature can also be less than optimum. [Pg.101]

Nanofibrous substrates are also able to absorb greater amounts of protein and present surface biomolecules to cells very efficiently because of their high surface area-to-volume ratio. Studies have shown that nanofibrous substrates can absorb as much as 16 times more protein than flat surfaces, and increased protein absorption was related to specific changes in cell behavior between the two substrates [149, 150]. When a specific molecule is attached to a substrate to modulate cell behavior, the density of molecule presentation can be much higher in nanofibrous than in flat structures. Thus, biomolecule incorporation in nanofibers can lead to more efficient modulation of cell behaviors than other methods of presentation [151]. [Pg.196]

RF piekup from the exeitation source or crosstalk between the deteetor and the referenee lines eauses systematie timing errors. The result is a modulation of the effeetive CFD threshold and the effective CFD zero cross point. Modulation of the threshold modulates the deteetion efficiency. Modulation of the zero cross point warps the time axis. In either ease the result is a ripple in the recorded curves. [Pg.311]

Another method to tailor pore size of mesoporous solids is to perform restructuring upon hydrothermal treatment. Applying aging treatments at different temperatures and for prolonged periods (from 24 hours up to several days) can efficiently modulate the nature of the mesophase. Such a treatment can either be performed directly in the mother liquor or at a different pH in fresh solutions (typically water or alcohol). For example, Kushalani et al. (185) proved that sUiceous MCM-41-type mesophases could be restmctured at elevated temperatures in its mother liquor resulting in pore size expansion from 3.7 to 5.9 nm. Also, postsynthesis treatments often improve the thermal stabUity of samples normally obtained at room temperature (with less shrinkage... [Pg.293]

To overcome this limitation, Bray proposed the multi-envelope design shown in Figure 9. Fabrication of such a module is more complex and will not be described here. However, the design allows the construction of larger, more efficient modules by utilizing shorter envelopes. Notably, Bray acknowledges the support of the Office of Saline Water in the first paragraph of the patent. [Pg.297]

The approaches and results summarized here illustrate the potential and advantages of DNA-based hybrid catalysts. While practical applications in preparative organic synthesis have still not been reported, it is now clear that DNA can efficiently modulate the stereochemical outcome of various Lewis acid-catalyzed and organometallic reactions, and can also provide rate acceleration. Both,... [Pg.389]
