Eating, drinking, and smoking in the laboratory are strictly prohibited. 

Except in an emergency, running, or any over-hurried activity, should be forbidden in and around the laboratories, as should be practical jokes or other irresponsible behaviour. Eating, drinking and smoking in the laboratory should also be forbidden these constitute a further, avoidable, risk of the ingestion of toxic substances, and in the case of smoking an obvious fire hazard. 

Good housekeeping also maintains that separate eating, drinking, and smoking facilities should be maintained that are isolated from the workplace. Refrigerators and freezers used for the storage of epoxy adhesive components must not be used to store edible items or drinks. 

Eating, drinking and smoking in working rooms and storage areas is prohibited. 

Eating, drinking and smoking should be totally banned in the laboratory. Staff should also undergo an induction course to enable them to realise the fact that micro-organisms are ubiquitous, and if suitable precautions are not taken when handling samples then contamination is inevitable. 

Although this is the least likely route of exposure, adequate precautions should be taken to prevent eating, drinking and smoking in areas where solvents are used. It is also important to prevent the use of unapproved containers for solvents. 

Eating, drinking and smoking in the building area has to be forbidden and this ban should be enforced strictly to prevent that any organic material (like bread or tobacco... 

Eating, drinking and smoking in an area liable to be contaminated by lead is not allowed. Drinking facilities may be provided, if required for employees welfare, and used as long as they are not liable to be contaminated by lead. 

Employee Comments Talked to both technicians—Mike West and Jamie Martinez. Neither had concerns regarding the operation. They said their health surveillance data (blood lead monitoring) did not indicate problems. When asked about eating, drinking, and smoking in the area, they said they were not allowed to eator smoke in the area, and drinking was only allowed at their desks.
