Early Hostility toward Chemical Graph Theory

Report received from the Journal of Chemical Physics in 1979 (reproduced with permission from On the history of the Randid index and emerging hostility towards chemical graph theory, M. Randid, MATCH Commun. Math. Comput. Chem., vol. 59, copyright 2008)  [Pg.397]

Title A Correlation between Kekule Valence Structures and Conjugated Circuits [Pg.397]

My colleague,, and I have examined the above paper. We have decided not [Pg.397]

What is depressing is not that there are chemists who have opinions that are not based on facts, but that there are editors who make decision on such speculative reports, before asking author for rebuttal, forgetting or not knowing what Lynn Margulis [1] has said  [Pg.398]

So I don t see how people can have strong opinions. .. Let me put this way opinions aren t science. There is no scientific basis It is just opinion  [Pg.398]

Appendix 1 Early Hostility toward Chemical Graph Theory... [Pg.397]

The appendix section of this book started with Appendix 1 Early Hostility toward Chemical Graph Theory, and, since in certain circles the hostility toward chemical graph theory has never ended, it scans appropriate to comment on one more recent incident in this area. The case that we have selected also illustrates (1) a lack of tolerance toward diversity and (2) cunning manipulations by part of establishment to protect the interest of a few scientists—a kind of bureaucracy that is emerging in science even in the twenty-first century. [Pg.457]
