Dust processing

Stars belonging to the asymptotic giant branch (AGB, Gehrz et al. 1989) and supernovae (Jones et al. 1996) are considered the principal sites of cosmic dust [Pg.142]

Air Filters The types of equipment previously described are intended primarily for the collection of process dusts, whereas air filters comprise a variety of filtration devices designed for the collection of particulate matter at low concentrations, usually atmospheric dust. The difference in the two categories of equipment is not in the principles of operation but in the adaptations required to deal with the different quantities of dust. Process-dust concentrations may run as high as several hundred grams per cubic meter (or grains per cubic foot) but usually do not exceed 45 g/m3 (20 gr/ft3). Atmospheric-dust concentrations that may be expected in various types of locations are shown in Table 17-8 and are generally below 12 mg/m3 (5 gr/1000 ft3). [Pg.52]

Lime/fly ash pozzolanic processes combine the properties of lime and fly ash to produce low-strength cementation. Kiln dust processes involve the addition of kiln dust to eliminate free liquids and usually form a low-strength solid. Lime-based processes for solidification use reactions of lime with water and pozzolanic (siliceous) materials, such as fly ash or dust from cement kilns, to form concrete, called a pozzolanic concrete. Wastes of desulfurization of gases and other inorganic wastes can be immobilized by this method. [Pg.166]

Armed with the results of laboratory studies of astrophysical dust processing, we are able to interpret the complex and varied history of dust in protoplanetary disks. This information is complemented by the detailed analysis of the solid material that remains from the earliest epochs of Solar System formation. [Pg.13]

Fish The fish arrives at the plant in frozen packages. The product is cut to sizes or the pieces separated. They are coated with batter and dusted with the mixture of starch, dextrose, flavoring leavening (for tempura), and so on. Batter coating and dusting process is repeated more than once to get better adhesion of the coating. The fish inside is still frozen. [Pg.2272]
