Durability Including Weathering

ASTM D1151-00 Standard test method for effect of moisture and temperature on adhesive bonds. [Pg.280]

ASTM D1828-01 Standard practice for atmospheric exposure of adhesive-bonded joints and structures. [Pg.280]

ASTM D2918-99 Standard practice for determining durability of adhesive joints stressed in peel. [Pg.280]

Standards for Durability including resistance to long-term effects and extreme weather impacts. [Pg.61]

From early cave dwellings to the well-appointed suburban homes of today, the most fundamental reason for shelter remains to provide protection from weather and other possible dangers. Beyond this most basic purpose, modern culture has forged a number of other expectations for homes, including affordability, comfort, health, durability, and peace of mind. This article explains the concepts behind energy-efficient homes—how they meet our basic needs... [Pg.203]

Protection from the Humidity Trapped by Weather-Tightness (including threats to occupant health building durability). [Pg.71]

It is generally understood that a suitably flame retarded fabric should retain this property under conditions of wear, wash and weather. Furthermore, the flame retardant component should not effectively alter the fabric characteristics including hand, drape, adsorbency, strength and durability. In addition, this component should not adversely modify other chemicals designed to impart color, size, mildew resistance, water repellency and the like. Finally, the incorporation of a flame retardent treatment in the processing cycle of the fabric should not burden the user with excessive cost. [Pg.256]

Test Methods. Tests for water repeUency of concrete and masonry have been described by several authors (72,94). The National Bureau of Standards (NBS) evaluated fifty-five clear water repeUents for masonry surfaces (95). Performance tests included water absorption, water-vapor transmission, resistance to efflorescence, change in appearance, and durability to accelerated and outdoor weathering. More recently, the National Cooperative Highway Research Program conducted a study of several organic and sihcone water-repeUent treatments. The results are communicated in Report 244 (96). The testing procedure used in this study is now a popular method for evaluating water-repeUent treatments on concrete. [Pg.311]

Other encapsulation applications of polymers for specific designs Include soil, ultraviolet, and abrasion-resistant front covers. The cover can serve as a transparent structural superstrata. Substrate support designs require a hard, durable front cover film to protect the relatively soft pottant from mechanical damages and excess soil accumulation. A polymeric front cover must be low In cost, highly transparent, and weather resistant to compete with glass. For applications out of the optical path between the sun and the solar cells (adhesives. Insulation, edge seals, gaskets) requirements for polymeric use In encapsulation are the same as for other applications. [Pg.9]
