Diesel-electric railway locomotives are also hybrid technologies because the diesel engine will drive an electric generator that will power an electric motor for locomotion. Bombardier has developed the AGC (Autoraila Grande Capacite), which is a dual-mode diesel electric as well as a dual-voltage railcar. The system can operate on 1,500-2,500 V [2],... 

Due to the barrier of increased cost that confronts the introduction of any new system, the time-scale for volume production of vehicles with 42-V systems is still uncertain. Nevertheless, once the 42-V PowerNet is introduced into a vehicle, manufacturers will convert many functions to the new voltage level when the relevant components are available at low cost, even if the higher voltage is not essential for the function in question. Dual-voltage (14-V/42-V) systems, with a separate battery at each of the two voltage levels, are under discussion for the intervening period [54]. 

The Xenopus oocyte expression system can be used to study macroscopic junctional conductances, but not to make single-channel measurements. Dual voltage clamp of coupled cells under conditions of reduced junctional conductance can reveal single-channel transitions (41, 46), but the problems of accessibility and series hemichannels remain. 

Lithium manganese dioxide batteries have become very prominent in recent years for military applications which are now widespread. Like sulfur dioxide batteries these are usually foimd in multicell packs often with dual voltage and cell sizes. The voltage of the system is similar to sulfur dioxide, so no major device changes are required. Typical batteries with their applications are given in Table 2 [1].

During normoxia (p02 about 300 torr) and normal pH (7.43), dual voltage clamping elicited multiple jimction channel activity with a mean microconductance (gj) of about lOOpS. Power switch. The power switeh is going to be a transformer-eoupled N-ehannel power MOSFET. I plan to use a dual N-Channel MOSFET in an SO-8 paekage to help save on PCB spaee. The maximum input voltage is 14 VDC. Therefore, a Edss rating of -I-30VDC or higher will be satisfaetory. The peak eurrent is 2.8 A. 

The cloned opiate receptors, like the endogenously expressed receptors, can couple to phospholipase C to increase Ca++ mobilization in transfected cells [31, 57, 58]. Thus, stimulation of opiate receptors can lead to inhibition of Ca++ influx via voltage-sensitive channels as well as increase Ca++ levels in cells released from intracellular stores. This dual role of opiates may explain the opposing excitatory and inhibitory effects they may have on some cells in the nervous system [59].
