The dissolution is an extremely exothermic process that can be violent if the bath temperature is not carefully controlled at —78°. A preferred procedure developed by Dr. A. E. Feiring, Central Research and Development Department, Du Pont Experimental Station, involves keeping the pyridine as cold as possible without freezing (ca. —40°), then slowly condensing the HF into the vessel so that the entire mixture remains liquid during the preparation. Stirring is also helpful. [Pg.77]

I am grateful to my colleagues at the Du Pont Experimental Station listed below for their help and support to apply the novel concepts described in this report to produce viable catalysts. Brian S. Malone and Rashmi M. Contractor conducted the attrition resistance and activity/selectivity measurements of the VPO-PSA catalysts in apparatuses of their own design. William J. Linn tested catalytic performance of the MCM-PSA products in the acrylonitrile process. EPMA micrographs were obtained by Joseph W. Brennan. SEM pictures were taken by Michael L. Van Kavelaar. The late Gunther Teufer conducted the X-ray diffraction and electron diffraction analysis. [Pg.71]

Gases, inert. An inquiry addressed to Blaine C. McKusick, Central Research Department, du Pont Experimental Station, brought the following response You asked about use of inert gases such as nitrogen, helium, and argon. We buy all three... [Pg.938]

The objectives of the Process Hazards Review program at the Du Pont Experimental Station are reviewed. [Pg.14]

While this whole review system that has been described may sound like an overwhelming and time consuming task, the Du Pont Experimental Station is convinced that Process Hazards Reviews and Audits are worthviiile and are conducting more of them every year. [Pg.22]

The publication in 1960 of Transport Phenomena by Bird, Stewart and Lightfoot was an important milestone in the establishment of the chemical engineering science approach. Bird and Lightfoot had joined the staff of the Chemical Engineering Department at Wisconsin in 1953. Bird had just spent a summer at the Du Pont Experimental Station in Wilmington, where he had been exposed to a large number... [Pg.29]

Figure 2. The Du Pont Experimental Station, established in 1903, occupies a site in the rolling country near Wilmin on, Delaware. By 1912, when this picture was t en, it included severd buildings. Some of them were refurbished powder mills on the banks of the Brandywine. At this time, the entire personnel of the station was less than 70. Figure 2. The program began in 1984 as a cooperative effort between NSTA and the National Science Foundation to fund two-week workshops at which teachers could learn about industrial technology. Du Pont participated by offering to hold a workshop on polymers at the Du Pont Experimental Station, the Company s major research center, located near Wilmington. [Pg.57]

Figure 4, This complex of buildings, just north of the BrandyvAne Creek near Wilmington, Del., is Du PonPs Experimental Station, one of the world s largest and most diverse research laboratories. With its establishment in 1903, Du Pont embarked on a wide-ranging research program which, with the discovery of neoprene and nylon, introduced a new era in polymer chemistry. Today about 1,400 scientists and engineers work at the station on projects ranging from theoretical investigation and the research for new structures to applied studies and new-product support. After moving into a room in a boarding house where he could take his meals, Carothers started work in Stine s small new building for basic research. Its mission was so unusual that local wags called it Purity Hall, and its researchers, The Virgins. Du Pont s Experimental Station was an informal, congenial place to work, though. Employees used first names, and anyone with a question simply walked over and asked the resident expert. [Pg.124]
