Drug-metabolizing ocular enzymes

Nakamura K, Fujiki T, Tamura HO. Age, gender, and region-specihc differences in drug metabolizing enzymes in rat ocular tissues. Exp Eye Res 81(6) 710-715, 2005. [Pg.246]

Small concentrations of enzymes can be used for the diffusive penetration of ocular tissues by electrophoresis and parabulbar injections. In such cases one can induce lysis of hemorrhages and exudates and restores the transparency of eye optical media. At the same time, small concentrations of enzymes can have an effect on metabolism in tissues and, in particular, on accelerating fluid metabolism and increasing the diffusion of drugs into ocular tissues. The latter point needs some further investigation. [Pg.143]
