In addition to the publications dealing with ingredients, there are also publications dealing with nomenclature (e.g., United States Approved Name (USAN) and USP Dictionary of Drug Names), information indexing (e.g., Index Medicus, National Library of Medicine), and information retrieval (e.g., computer-based Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System MEDLARS and MEDLINE, National Library of Medicine). [Pg.16]

Our own group has recently published an approach to extract pharmacological property classes that are directly related to chemical compounds from Medline abstracts. The system is based on a commercial solution, the TEMIS platform for text analysis, using so-called Hearst patterns. Patterns indicative of information on the biological activity of compounds were identified and used to analyze Medline abstracts and the unstructured text field in DrugBank for drug classification statements.
