Downspouts

NFPA 30 also fails to recommend flow rate restrictions except a slow start until the downspout is submerged. Section 5-4 of this book provides for restricted flow rates throughout filling this should be applied wherever charge accumulation is possible due to low liquid conductivity and where flammable mixtures involving gas, mist or froth may be formed.

MATERIALS 3.5" rocket, packing tube, downspout, soil pipe or boards, firing wire, batteries. 

A roof drains into a gutter, which feeds the water into a downspout with a square cross section (4 in. x 4 in.). The discharge end of the downspout is 12 ft below the entrance, and terminates in a 90° mitered (one weld) elbow. The downspout is made of smooth sheet metal. 

Monolayer tubes, corrugated or multilayer pipes, spiral wound, small or large diameter... Siding consumes 15% of the PVC tot, with gutters, downspouts, boardings... Windows and doors consume 4% of the PVC total in shutters, architectural glazing systems, conservatory devices. .. 

Rainwater is generally of good guality, free from contaminants, and relatively low-pH, making it suitable for use on all types of plants. Surprisingly large volumes can easily be harvested from roofs via gutter downspouts and stored in rain barrels, tanks, and ponds. 

Tanktrucks, where flammable vapors are likely to be present, should be electrically bonded via the downspout, piping or steel loading rack as shown in Figure 8-13 (API 2003, 1998). If the bonding occurs through the rack, then the downspout, piping, and rack must be electrically interconnected. The connection should be made before the dome cover is opened and remain in place until the dome cover is closed. 

Most homes have rain gutters attached at the edge of the roof to catch water coming down the roof surface the water is then directed to a downspout. The gutters are often trapezoidal prisms where one side of the trapezoid is perpendicular to the two parallel sides so that it forms a flat attachment to the side of the house. 

The arrangement used is shown in Fig. 12(a). The horizontal plates are pierced with holes of small diameter (approximately J -in. diameter), whose total cross section may be 20 to 25% that of the column. No downspouts are provided, as for ordinary perforated-plate extractors, and both liquids must pass through the same holes. The plate spacing is usually small, 2 in. in large-diameter columns, for example. Columns of this sort may be pulsed at amplitudes of 1 in. and frequencies up to 150 cycles/min., depending upon the circumstances.

Still Operation. Functionally, the still operated satisfactorily, though there were certain mechanical troubles not basically inherent in the design. The struts securing the downspouts snapped, the upper bearing housing required replacement, and the vacuum seal on the blower shaft failed from time to time. The still was given many runs between minor repairs, but delivered only 68% of the predicted yield from sea water (17,000 instead of 25,000 gallons per day). 

Liquid collects on each fray to a depth of, say, several inches and the depth controlled by a dam or weir. As the liquid level rises, excess liquid spills over the weir into a channel (downspout), which carries the liquid to the tray below.
