Dowex flow rate through

To cause adsorption of the glucose-1-phosphate by the IR-45, gently pour the acidic solution treated with Dowex 50 (steps 13 and 14 of the protocol for Day 2) onto the column, avoiding the introduction of air bubbles into the resin bed. Open the screw clamp and adjust the flow rate to about 15 ml/min. Pass the entire solution through the IR-45 resin without permitting air to enter the column. [Pg.211]

The laboratory fermentation broth, which is similar to the commercial broth, contained 2.0 g/0.11 lysine, much smaller amounts of Ca", and other amino acids. The broth was passed through 500 ml of strong acid cation resin, Dowex HCR-S, in the NH/ form. The flow rate was 9 ml/min or 1.77 ml/min per cm of resin. It was determined that the resin capacity averaged 115 g of lysine-HCl per liter of resin. It may be noted that since the equivalent molecular weight of lysine-HCl is 109.6 g and the theoretical capacity of Dowex HCR-S is 2.0 meq/ml, the operating capacity is 52% of theoretical capacity. [Pg.429]

Phosphate. Because of interference by uranium in the usual magnesium ammonium orthophosphate procedure,5 uranium is first removed by a cation-exchange procedure. A column (2.5 by 36 cm.) of 50 to 75 cc. of Dowex-50 resin is washed with 200 ml. of Z N hydrochloric acid and then 200 ml. of water at flow rates of 2 to 3 ml./min. An acidic solution of the product, containing 100 to 150 mg. of orthophosphate, is passed through the column at a rate of 1 ml./min. The column is washed with water until the washings are neutral to litmus, and phosphate is determined in the combined eluate and washings by the usual gravimetric procedure.6 Uranium can be eluted from the... [Pg.151]

In this section, we present the results of our studies on the recovery of copper from an actual solvent extraction raffinate from a copper mine in the United States and compare its performance to Dowex 43084 on mock ore solutions. Fourteen bed volumes of a solution containing 3000-ppm ferric ion and 1000-ppm cupric ion at pH 1.5 were passed through a 5-mL column containing CuWRAM at 2 bed volumes per minute. The experiment was repeated using the same volume of Dowex 43084 (labeled XFS, its alternative name, in Fig. 12). The contents of the sulfuric acid strip solutions reveal that the CuWRAM is more selective and has a higher flow capacity at relatively rapid flow rates. The difference in flow capacity is partially due to the difference in particle size of the two materials (100 pm for CuWRAM and 250-500 pm for XFS). However, we have previously shown that at equal particle sizes and flow rates the silica-polyamine composites have about 80% better flow capacities at 2-bed volumes per minute and at equal particle sizes (see section I.B). 2 ... [Pg.69]

Anion exchange separations have been used for example to separate lead Isotopes of a few seconds half life from bismuth parent activities (S9). The column was maintained at 82.3 C by refluxing Isopropyl alcohol through an external Jacket In order to Increase the rate of equilibration. Bismuth was adsorbed on the resin and lead was eluted. Lead daughters of half life down to one or two seconds could then be removed from the resin rapidly enough with very dilute hydrochloric acid to allow their lifetimes and radiation characteristics to be measured. A similar method has been used by Campbell and Nelson to make measurements of the characteristics of 0.8 sec lead-207M produced from decay of blsmuth-207 (C3). In this work 200 meah Dowex-1 (1056 cross linked) resin was used at room temperature. These workers have utilized a flow... [Pg.69]
