The luminescence from octahedral uranate groups has also been reported for other uranium-doped oxidic compounds (see e.g. Ref. 7). Like in uranium-doped compounds with ordered perovskite structure isolated UOg octahedra are present in several other host lattices. In this type of compounds e.g. Y3Li3Te20i2-U" LigWOs-LT I and Mg3TeOg—, the luminescence properties of the octahedral uranate group are similar to the properties which have been observed for uranium-doped ordered per-ovskites. Due to symmetry lowering the vibrational structure in the luminescence spectra is more complicated, and also the luminescence decay time is shorter than in ordered perovskite systems (c.f. Sect. 2.1). [Pg.113]

Semiconductors are a class of materials whose conductivity, while highly pure, varies witli temperature as exp (-Ag//cg7), where is tlie size of a forbidden energy gap. The conductivity of semiconductors can be made to vary over orders of magnitude by doping, tlie intentional introduction of appropriate impurities. The range in which tlie conductivity of Si can be made to vary is compared to tliat of typical insulators and metals in figure C2.16.1. [Pg.2877]

In order to obtain appreciable conductivities, semiconductors must be doped witli small amounts of selected impurities. It is possible to switch tire doping type from n to p type, or vice versa, eitlier during tire growtli of a crystal or by tire selective introduction of impurities after tire growtli. The boundary region between tire p type and n type regions is... [Pg.2889]

Aqueous Corrosion. Several studies have demonstrated that ion implantation may be used to modify either the local or generalized aqueous corrosion behavior of metals and alloys (119,121). In these early studies metallic systems have been doped with suitable elements in order to systematically modify the nature and rate of the anodic and/or cathodic half-ceU reactions which control the rate of corrosion. [Pg.398]

Recently photorefractivity in photoconductive polymers has been demonstrated (92—94). The second-order nonlinearity is obtained by poling the polymer doped with a nonlinear chromophore. Such a polymer may or may not be a good photoconductor. Usually sensitizers have to be added to enhance the charge-generation efficiency. The sensitizer function of fuUerene in a photorefractive polymer has been demonstrated (93). [Pg.417]
