Dizziness oxamniquine

Since the drug makes many patients dizzy or drowsy, it should be used with caution in patients whose work or activity requires mental alertness (eg, no driving for 24 hours). It should be used with caution in those with a history of epilepsy. Oxamniquine is contraindicated in pregnancy. 

Headache and dizziness have also been reported with oxamniquine (5). 

Oxamniquine is a well tolerated drug and patients show side effects, which are usually mild and of transient nature like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, abdominal pain and drowsiness. The most serious side effect of the drug is related to CNS disorders, particularly abnormal electroencephalograms (EEG) [68,72,73]. Some patients may develop fever usually ranging from 38-39 C lasting for 2-5 days [72].

D. Oxamniquine Oxamniquine is effective solely in Schistosoma mansoni infections, acting on male immature forms and adult schistosomal forms. Dizziness is a common adverse effect headache, gastrointestinal irritation, and pruritus may also occur. Reactions to dying parasites include eosinophilia, urticaria, and pulmonary infiltrates. It is not advisable to use the drug in pregnancy or in patients with a past history of seizure disorders. 

Oxamniquine is active against mature and immature forms of Schistosoma mansoni (but not other schistosomes), though resistance can occur. The initial use of the drug was presumably based on identification of the parasite ova in stools, this drug s ease of administration (it is orally effective), and— perhaps—its availability.
