Diy pressing

Compact disks were diy-pressed in a stainless steel die and then cold-isostatically consolidated under 200MPa pressure without any additives. Densification of Nd Lu20j green compacts were performed in a furnace (Model FDB-14-19, NEMS Co., Japan) equipped with a tungsten-mesh heater under flowing H2 atmosphere at 1880°C for 8 h. [Pg.606]

As exposed above, three experimental campaigns were performed, involving HJs and SFJs. Referring to the three campaigns the results are presented in the three sub Sections below. When dealing with HJs, the estimation of the coefficient of friction in diy press-fitted conditions is also reported. A comparison between the results of the three campaigns is reported in the Discussion section. [Pg.60]

A description of the basic processing and equipment used in ceramic tile manufacture is included below to familiarize the non-ceramist with the basics of this technology. With few exceptions, the equipment and processes used in diy pressing and/or extrusion of ceramic tile are similar to those used in all parts of the ceramic industry and will not be repeated for other areas. [Pg.471]

For the latter purpose, dissolve the crystals in hot ethanol, and then add water drop by drop to the well-stirred solution until a line emulsion just appears then add more ethanol, also drop by drop, until the emulsion just redissolves. ow allow the solution to cool spontaneousK if the emulsion reappears, add a few drops of ethanol from time to time in order to keep the solution clear. Finally the o-nitrophenol separates in crystals, and the well-stirred mixture may now be cooled in ieewvater until crystallisation is complete. Filter, drain and diy either in an atmospheric desiccator, or by pressing between drying-paper. [Pg.172]

DisK Presses Figure 18-157 shows a disk press. The two disks, or press wheels, converge to a veiy narrow space at the bottom. This is the point of maximum compression, which can be more than 14 times the feed pressure. The press wheels have channels to cany the hquid from the dewatered product, and they are covered with a screen plate. Wheels 1.5 m (5 ft) in diameter are used on a large press that requires about 80 connected horsepower and produces just under 1 tonne/h (0.9 ton/h) of sohds (diy basis). Typical apphcations are fibrous materials such as coffee grounds, pineapple and citrus peels and wastes, alfalfa, and brewers spent grain. [Pg.1744]

Considering a mass of ceramic powder about to be molded or pressed into shape, the forces necessary and the speeds possible are determined by mechanical properties of the diy powder, paste, or suspension. For any material, the elastic moduli for tension (Young s modulus), shear, and bulk compression are the mechanical properties of interest. These mechanical properties are schematically shown in Figure 12.1 with their defining equations. These moduli are mechanical characteristics of elastic materials in general and are applicable at relatively low applied forces for ceramic powders. At higher applied forces, nonlinear behavior results, comprising the flow of the ceramic powder particles over one another, plastic deformation of the particles, and rupture of... [Pg.542]
