Distillation hazard study

In summary, the present case study involved sorption/desorption processes with distilled water of a variety of hazardous solid wastes and highway C R materials which are complex organic mixtures. The following are some of the findings ... [Pg.232]

Prior to the study of Jacobs, Song et al. [87] had already reported monomeric Cr-salen 63 catalyzed ARO of epoxides with TMSN3 in ionic liquid l-butyl-3-methylimidazolium salts [bmim][X]. The ARO reaction proceeded readily at room temperature with easy catalyst/solvent recycling and does not include hazardous workup stages such as distillation of the azide product. [Pg.330]

A review of the medical literature on chemical aspiration revealed that some hydrocarbons (petroleum distillates) and certain chlorinated hydrocarbons have been shown to pose an aspiration hazard in humans. Primary alcohols, and ketones have been shown to pose an aspiration hazard only in animal studies. [Pg.211]

Death. There is no reliable information regarding doses of Stoddard solvent that could cause death in humans. It is possible that exposure to very high concentrations of this petroleum distillate could pose a serious health hazard and possibly even cause death from central nervous system depression. However, death is unlikely unless there is an extremely high exposure, since Stoddard solvent contains very little of the smaller carbon chains (Cs and below) which are known to be highly volatile and highly toxic (Andrews and Snyder 1986). There is also a remote risk of death due to pulmonary pathology from aspiration (Ellenhorn and Barceloux 1988). Levels that may pose a mortality risk to humans are not known and cannot be determined from animal studies. Concentrations of 10,000 mg/m Stoddard solvent were lethal to cats (Carpenter et al. 1975a,... [Pg.58]
