Dispersions antagonism

The sulfated alkylbenzenesulfonamides (no. 7-8) and alkylaroylsulfo-propionates (no. 9) were found to be efficient lime soap dispersants [27]. Although the nonionics (nos. 10-11) had low LSDR values they did not potentiate the detergency of soap and exhibited some antagonism. Amphoteric surfactants with alkyl side chains from C12 to C18 (nos. 12-13) possessed the lowest LSDR values, ranging from 2 to 4. The amine oxide derived from an aromatic sulfonamide had a low LSDR of 5 close to that of amphoterics. [Pg.638]

The dispersant property of the CPI is impeded by the nucleation enhancement performance of a pour point improver. In other words, the CPI functions to inhibit crystal growth while the pour point improver functions to maintain and control crystal growth. These two performance properties result in an antagonism between... [Pg.171]

On the other hand arrhythmia due to uncoupling may be prevented. If coupling is enhanced selectively in the previously uncoupled area only within that area cellular uncoupling would be antagonized, which means that the surrounding tissue would not be affected in the way described above. There might be a similar effect in the close border zone between diseased and normal tissue, but the effect would be confined to that zone. Inhomogeneities within the diseased zone would be smoothened whereas the normal tissue behavior would probably be less affected. This could especially smooth differences in action potential duration and thereby prevent, in some situations, from reentrant arrhythmia, since this is often related to differences in action potential duration, to dispersion. Another important factor in the initiation of reentry... [Pg.89]

ADTN and other dopamine agonists mimicked this effect which was antagonized by a- and B-flupenthixol, the a-isomer being 100 times more potent. In a similar way, dopamine caused a rapid 20-30-fold increase in cellular cAMP in dispersed bovine parathyroid cells. The potency of a series of dopaminergic agonists and antagonists on adenylate cyclase activity paralleled the effects of these ligands on CAMP accumulation and parathormone secretion (16). It was concluded that bovine parathyroid cells possess dopamine sites which are involved in the control of parathormone secretion. [Pg.26]

Table 4-13 contains the static yield stresses of the xanthan dispersions in water (Column A), of the three starches in water (Column B) and their sum (Column C), and those of the mixed starch-xanthan dispersions (Column D). One can say that there is synergism between xanthan and starch if values in Column D are higher than those in Column C if they are lower, there is antagonism. From the table, it seems that WXM (except with 1% xanthan concentration) and CWS starches exhibited synergistic... [Pg.215]

In the second case treated by MacLeod a victim of morphinism and alcoholism was cured of addiction to both simultaneously by the use of great amounts of sodium bromide. The next case was that of a patient who used chloral habitually the patient was kept asleep for eight days by the use of sodium bromide. At the end of the treatment the sufferer was ctued. Chloral, being a well-known anesthetic, acts by agglomerating reversibly the protein colloids of the brain and of the sensory nerves the action of the sodium bromide in this case was to disperse the agglomerated protein particles in the same way that it acted to cure morphinism. This establishes an experimental parallelism between the action of morphine and chloral, and the action of sodium bromide in antagonizing them both. [Pg.4]
