The extraction of the AOT samples consisted of taking a 50-mL subsample and extracting by separatory funnel with hexane and 10% NaCl in water. The cleaned-up and dried hexane extract was then injected onto a gas chromatograph (GC) with an ECD (electron conductivity detector). The minimum quantifiable limit (MQL), or limit of quantification, for the method was 0.002 ug/mL dislodging solution. A typical set of chromatograms can be seen in Figures 1 and 2. [Pg.142]

Hydrolysis of benzanilide. Place 5 g. of benzanilide and 50 ml. of 70 per cent, sulphuric acid in a small flask fitted with a reflux condenser, and boU gently for 30 minutes. Some of the benzoio acid will vapourise in the steam and solidify in the condenser. Pour 60 ml. of hot water down the condenser this will dislodge and partially dissolve the benzoic acid. Cool the flask in ice water filter off the benzoic acid (anifine sulphate does not separate at this dilution), wash well with water, drain, dry upon filter paper, and identify by m.p. (121°) and other tests. Render the filtrate alkaline by cautiously adding 10 per cent, sodium hydroxide solution, cool and isolate the aniline by ether extraction. Curalan DF is a fungicide produced by BASF Corp. for the purpose of treating such diseases as brown patch and fusarium patch on turf. Curalan DF was applied to turf in California, Florida, and Pennsylvania at a rate of 5.6 lb of active ingredient in 80 gallons of finished spray solution per acre using a tractor-mounted boom sprayer. Follow the procedure described above using 1 g portions in 10 , 10 , 10 , 10 " and 10 M CTAB solutions. Addition of CTAB may cause extensive frothing. Since the powder will be retained in this foam it must be broken up either mechanically using a Pasteur pipette or by the addition of a small amount of ethanol. The powder may also stick to the walls of the apparatus above the collection tube. This powder should be dislodged by gentle tapping on the walls of the apparatus.
