Disable pin

In this example, the error amp on the eontrol IC (a UC3843AP) is disabled by wiring the inputs of the error amp so that the output is guaranteed to be high. The values of R are not important (say 10K eaeh). The eompensation pin has a 1mA eurrent souree internally and has a high voltage of +4.5 V for the full output eondition. 

You ll often see devices with just three pins. These are common for devices that require only two settings, like on and off, or enabled and disabled. 

There are two control computers (Main and Auxiliary) both communicated with Robot controllers and between them by RS-232 serial protocol. You can easily test how the control inputs are working. If you apply a negative voltage (< -3V) to DSR (pin 6) of the DTE, you disable it. Power may be off on the device. This would disable DTR (pin 20) which should not allow the connection to be made. Device or port must be in on-line mode to keep DTR on and maintain the line. Duplex should be the same at each end. Computer at the far end may automatically disconnect if it determines that the call is being made by an invalid user.
