Directional Flow

The x-direction velocity component is perpendicular to the flight edge. It is assumed that the flow in the x direction is fully developed, forcing dl /dx to be zero. Moreover, from the equation of continuity (Eq. A7.4), both dVy/dy and Vy are zero for this simplified analysis. The x-component equation of motion (Eq. A7.5) reduces to  [Pg.735]

8 is solved with the boundary conditions below for the transformed reference frame shown in Fig. A7.1. Here the flight clearance Is ignored. [Pg.735]

Equation A7.8 is integrated twice and the resulting equation is solved using the boundary conditions of Eqs. A7.9 and A7.10. The resulting equation for is as follows  [Pg.735]

The pressure term is eliminated using the mass balance from Eq. 7.12. Upon Integration the velocity function for the x direction is as follows  [Pg.735]

Equation A7.13 is the cross-channel flow in the transformed (Lagrangian) frame and concludes the derivation of Eq. 7.18. Equation A7.13 also applies to a physical device where the barrel is actually rotated. Transforming Eq. A7.13 to the laboratory (Eule-rian) reference frame as follows for a physical device where the screw is rotated  [Pg.736]

The Cannon-Fenske viscometer (Fig. 24b) is excellent for general use. A long capillary and small upper reservoir result in a small kinetic energy correction the large diameter of the lower reservoir minimises head errors. Because the upper and lower bulbs He on the same vertical axis, variations in the head are minimal even if the viscometer is used in positions that are not perfecdy vertical. A reverse-flow Cannon-Fen ske viscometer is used for opaque hquids. In this type of viscometer the Hquid flows upward past the timing marks, rather than downward as in the normal direct-flow instmment. Thus the position of the meniscus is not obscured by the film of Hquid on the glass wall. [Pg.181]

Check Valves Tlie pmpose of a check valve is to allow relatively unimpeded flow in the desired direction but to prevent flow in the reverse direction. Two common designs are swing-tvpe and lift-type check valves—the names of which denote the motion of the closure member. In the fonvard direction, flow forces overcome the weight of... [Pg.792]

Each PR valve must be installed so that the bonnet vent does not allow released vapors to impinge on lines or equipment, or towards personnel walkways. Where necessary, a short nipple and elbow should be added to direct flow away from such areas. In these cases, the vent piping should discharge horizontally to avoid entry of rainwater and debris, and should terminate in a position which is accessible for leak testing. [Pg.161]

When the width of the jet (calculated for free conditions) is less than the width of the room, airflow after jet impingement on a floor is similar to that in noncon-fined conditions. When the horizontally directed flow (along the particular line) reaches the wall, it is divided into two branches one following the direction of the branch with a maximum airflow and another flowing in the opposite direction. [Pg.493]

Auxiliary air cupboards have many problems, most of which have been reported in the literature. A main problem that does not receive much attention is coordination of the flow into the opening controlled by the exhaust with the supply flow directed down immediately above the opening. This includes the complex and simultaneous relationships between velocities, flow rates, flow widths, flow directions, flow stability, turbulence, and temperatures. To this should be added the same problems that exist for normal fume cupboards, such as necessary exhaust flow rate and velocity, flow pattern inside the cupboard, working procedures, and the influence of people on the flow pattern outside and into the opening. The auxiliary air outlet may also be a source of noise. [Pg.993]

A method has been reported for the quantification of five fungicides (shown in Figure 5.39) used to control post-harvest decay in citrus fruits to ensure that unacceptable levels of these are not present in fruit entering the food chain [26]. A survey of the literature showed that previously [27] APCl and electrospray ionization (ESI) had been compared for the analysis of ten pesticides, including two of the five of interest, i.e. carbendazim and thiabendazole, and since it was found that APCl was more sensitive for some of these and had direct flow rate compatibility with the HPLC system being used, APCl was chosen as the basis for method development. [Pg.246]

An analysis of the flow behavior which is more or less confirmed by numerical simulations is presented by Leblanc. " The total flow in an internal mixer (tangential type) can be divided into a laminar, circulating flow which is pushed by the rotor tip, an axial directed flow, as an effect of the helix angle between axis and rotor wing and a leakage flow between rotor tip and mixing chamber waU (refer to Figure 35.6), or... [Pg.980]

Online SPE — One HPLC system was used to perform both SPE and HPLC separation. A column switching valve was used to direct the flow from the extraction column to waste (off-line) or the analytical column (online). A second column switching valve directed flow from the analytical column to the mass spectrometer or to waste. [Pg.85]

He also introduces different node types for procurement, production, distribution and sales and confirms the one-directional flow of material... [Pg.26]
