2- -5-dimethylaminophenol

For cyanide and cyanogen, antidote should be administered as soon as possible. The Lilly Cyanide Antidote Kit contains amyl nitrite, sodium nitrite, and sodium thiosulfate. Cobalt edentate or 4-dimethylaminophenol are alternative antidotes for cyanide poisoning. Benzodiazepines or barbiturates may be required to control severe seizures. [Pg.239]

Sulfur Donors. These enhance the endogenous sulfurtransferase mechanisms for the detoxification of CN to SCN. Sodium thiosulfate is often used in combination with other antidotes having different modes of antidotal action for example, with sodium nitrite or 4-dimethylaminophenol (4-DMAP). As a generalization, sodium thiosulfate is used as a supplementary treatment on the basis that it is slow acting, possibly due to limited penetration into mitochondria. [Pg.330]

Methylacrylonitrile is a mild skin and eye irritant. However, it is readily absorbed by skin. It showed delayed skin reaction. In mice, the lethal dose from intraperitoneal administration was 15 mg/kg. The oral toxicity due to this compound was also relatively high an LD50 of 11.6 mg/kg was determined in mice. There is no report of its mutagenic, teratogenic, or carcinogenic actions in animals or humans. 4-Dimethylaminophenol [616-60-3] plus sodium thiosulfate or N-acety Icy stein [616-91-1] was shown to antagonize the acute toxicity of methylacrylonitrile (Peter and Bolt 1985). [Pg.312]
