Digital x-ray imaging system

Digital X-ray imaging system An X-ray source coupled to a brightness amplifier and digital camera. This allows contrast improvement for fine detail and image enhancement. 

I. Digital X-ray Mapping. The beam may be controlled by a computer to move within a grid of points on the specimen surface. The beam remains at each point for a pre-set time while an analysis is carried out. With an EDS system, data from several elements may be collected at the same time and a BSE image may also be acquired in the same experiment. Digital X-ray maps may then be displayed for each of the chosen elements in turn. 

Detectors are used to convert X-ray flux into an electrical signal, which can then be digitized and stored. For imaging cabinet X-ray systems, the detectors usually consist of a folded linear array of scintillators optically coupled to photodiodes. Typically, 500-1000 such detector elements are present for single-energy imaging... 

The accumulation and build-up of an image has to be done in a digital store. Here the demand of speed becomes quite high. Quantitative results of X-ray measurements with a fast scan system, are not available at present.
