Digital option

She advocates determining your style and preferences first (refer to the earlier section of this chapter on self-reflection and analysis) and then considering whether you prefer visual/tactile options (such as paper-based calendars and appointment books) or linear/digital options (such as computer programs and PDAs). She also warns that no system is perfect. Whatever your choice, Morgenstern recommends that you customize it, use it to its fullest, and accept its imperfections. 

Range accrual notes can be based on almost any qnoted market rate. In this example, the return on a dollar-denominated instrnment is linked to European short-term interest rates, but it could also be linked to exchange rates, stock or commodity prices. In most cases they are structured using strips of digital options. 

A DNT option is a path-dependent digital option. The digital characteristic means that payment at maturity is not dependent on how much the option is in-the-money instead, the payout, if made, is fixed at the outset. The path-dependent characteristic means that market rates throughout the lifetime of the option are monitored, not just on the maturity date. If, at any time, the nnderlying market rate touches (trades at or through) the barrier levels, this triggers the payout at maturity. 

Presently, fieldbus controllers are single-loop controllers with 8- and 16-bit microprocessors and are options to digital field-control devices. These controllers support the basic PID control algorithm... 

An inherently safer control system design will, where possible, include options for on-line reliability tests and inspections. Within digital devices, this is done using watch-dog timers to assure the signals are processed.
