Differentiation regulatory factor

Serine/threonine kinase activity has been reported in ESP of pepsin-HCl isolated muscle larvae (Arden el al., 1997) and kinase activity was associated with proteins of 70 and 135 kDa. Phosphorylation status is functionally significant for multiple regulatory factors, including those involved in muscle differentiation (Li et al., 1992). Therefore, kinase activity in parasite secretions may be significant in either the muscle or intestinal phases of infection. 

Sources of TPO include kidney and skeletal muscle cells but it is primarily produced by the liver, from where it is excreted constantly into the blood. This regulatory factor supports the proliferation, differentiation and maturation of megakaryocytes and their progenitors and... 

It seems likely that the pivotal events in the evolution of a differentiated cell reflect changes in gene expression that result from a complex hierarchy of controls. The key to understanding differentiation, therefore, is to identify the regulatory factors responsible for the controls involved in differentiation and to explain how they act. 

Special combinations of regulatory factors give rise to developmental patterns of cell differentiation.
