Didecyl phthalate

Cycloheptatriene containing 9% toluene is available from the Shell Chemical Company, New York. Less pure cycloheptatriene, obtained by pyrolysis of bicycloheptadiene followed by a crude distillation, has been used successfully in this preparation. The quantity of the tropilidene/toluene mixture is adjusted in accord with its purity as estimated by vapor-phase chromatography on didecyl phthalate. 

Gas-liquid chromatography analysis of the product may be effected using didecyl phthalate as the stationary phase.193... 

In this procedure, the HPLC analysis is carried out on a DuPont Zorbax ODS column using methanol, acetonitrile and water 10 2 1 at the mobile phase. This system resolves vitamins D3 from D2 and from degradation products and other fat soluble vitamins. Didecyl and dinonyl phthalate were used as the internal standards. The latter was included for use in the event that extraneous peaks interfered with the didecyl phthalate peak. Figure 11 shows a chromatogram of an extract of a multivitamin formulation with the two added internal standards.

Most of the experimental results which will be discussed in this section have been obtained by studying mixtures of PC with esters of the phthalic acid. Before focusing on the deformation behavior of these systems at high strains it may be useful to summarize some general properties of the esters and their mixtures with PC. Analysis of Products. The three fractions collected from each sample were analyzed by gas chromatography. The noncondensable fraction, containing hydrogen and methane, was analyzed on silica gel at room temperature. The fraction containing C2-C4 hydrocarbons was analyzed at 75 °C. on silica gel treated with didecyl phthalate. Aliquots of the liquid fraction were analyzed on three columns of different selectivity Bentone-34-didecyl phthalate silicone SE-30 and m-polyphenyl ether (five-ring). Products were identified, and their yields were determined by comparison of retention volumes and peak areas with values for known amounts of authentic samples.
