Alkyl diazonium ion

The product of this series of steps is an alkyl diazonium ion, and the amine is said to have been diazotized Alkyl diazonium ions are not very stable decomposing rapidly under the conditions of their formation Molecular nitrogen is a leaving group par excel lence and the reaction products arise by solvolysis of the diazonium ion Usually a car bocation intermediate is involved... [Pg.944]

Figure 22 5 shows what happens when a typical primary alkylamine reacts with nitrous acid Because nitrogen free products result from the formation and decomposition of diazonium ions these reactions are often referred to as deamination reactions Alkyl... [Pg.944]

Aryl diazonium ions prepared by nitrous acid diazotization of primary arylamines are substantially more stable than alkyl diazonium ions and are of enormous synthetic value Their use m the synthesis of substituted aromatic compounds is described m the following two sections... [Pg.945]

Primary arylamines like primary alkylammes form diazonium ion salts on nitro sation Aryl diazonium 10ns are considerably more stable than their alkyl counterparts Whereas alkyl diazonium 10ns decompose under the conditions of their formation aryl diazonium salts are stable enough to be stored m aqueous solution at 0-5°C for a rea sonable time Loss of nitrogen from an aryl diazonium ion generates an unstable aryl cation and is much slower than loss of nitrogen from an alkyl diazonium ion... [Pg.945]

One of the best leaving groups is molecular nitrogen in alkyl diazonium ions. Diazonium ions are generated by nitrosation of primaiy amines. The diazonium ions generated from alkyl amines are veiy unstable and immediately decompose with loss of nitrogen. [Pg.298]

Nucleophilic substitution reactions that occur imder conditions of amine diazotization often have significantly different stereochemisby, as compared with that in halide or sulfonate solvolysis. Diazotization generates an alkyl diazonium ion, which rapidly decomposes to a carbocation, molecular nitrogen, and water ... [Pg.306]

While A -dimethylaniline is an extremely reactive aromatic substrate and is readily attacked by such weak electrophiles as aiyl diazonium ions and nitrosonium ion, this reactivity is greatly diminished by introduction of an alkyl substituent in the ortho position. Explain. [Pg.597]

Draw all of the resonance contributors needed to describe each ion. Why is phenyl diazonium ion so much more stable than either of the alkyl diazonium ions ... [Pg.208]

The new reaction appears to be a simple one-step procedure, which is particularly suitable for tertiary alkyl-aryldiazenes for which alternative synthetic routes are less convenient. However, aryl radicals or alkyl radicals in which the carbon-centered radical is bonded to an electron-withdrawing group (COOR, COR, CONR2, CN, S02R, etc.) do not add to diazonium salts or give only poor results (Citterio et al., 1982 c). This indicates that the radical must be a relatively strong nucleophile in order to be able to react with a diazonium ion. [Pg.370]

In addition to the aqueous method for diazotization in aqueous solution, diazonium ions can be generated in organic solvents by reaction with alkyl nitrites. [Pg.1028]

Good yields of chlorides have also been obtained for reaction of isolated diazonium tetrafluoroborates with FeCl2-FeCl3 mixtures.100 It is also possible to convert anilines to aryl halides by generating the diazonium ion in situ. Reaction of anilines with alkyl nitrites and Cu(II) halides in acetonitrile gives good yields of aryl chlorides and bromides.101... [Pg.1030]
