One important aspect of this type of dissolution approach is that a good contact between the crystal surface and the sample is essential, not only for the imaging of the tablet or pharmaceutical formulation but also to ensure that water penetrates into the sample only from the side of the tablet. This is especially important when mathematical modeling of the dissolution process is compared with experimental data. When using the diamond ATR approach, the tablet is pressed onto the diamond, and hence the leakage of water between the diamond surface and the tablet is not expected [66]. [Pg.365]

Photopolymerization of acrylic monomers and related systems is a challenging area for the application of real-time MIR spectroscopy since the reactions are often completed within seconds, so there needs to be an excellent SNR in the spectra if reliable kinetic data are to be generated. The temporal resolution of an FT-IR spectrometer at a resolution of 16 cm is 11 ms, so 100 spectra can be gathered in the time frame of the fastest reaction, but without multiplexing to improve the SNR. Fourier Transfer Infrared (FTIR) spectra of lignin were acquired on a Thermo Nicolet Nexus 470 FTIR spectrometer with a Golden Gate Heatable Diamond ATR (attenuated total reflectance) accessory at room temperature. Utihzing spectroscopic probes is generally straightforward for hquid and gas/hquid systems. This is also the case for ATR probes, which form part of the widely apphed ReactlR system supplied by Mettler Toledo [13, 14, 24, 25].
