Di phenylenes

Units which destroy the linearity of the chain must be treated as separate entities. These include mefa-phenylene, 2,6-naphthalene, ether or methylene di-phenylene and meta-cyclohexylene. The rule which is most generally applicable in this case is to subtract 2 units from the in-chain score. Hence raefa-phenylene and m-cyclohexylene score +1 and 0 respectively. [Pg.209]

The structures of the P3ATs, PPVs, CN-PPVs, PPEs, poly(3-hexyl thiophene ethynylenes) (P3HTE), poly-(/ -di ethynylene phenylene-p-di phenylene vinylene) (PDEPDPV), and poly(p-phenylene ethynylene anilines) (PPEAs) are shown in Figure 7.2. The P3ATs were synthesized by Yoshino and co-workers [50], the PPVs by Wild] and co-workers [24], Holmes and coworkers [25,26], or Murase and co-workers [51], and the other polymers by Barton and co-workers [9,52,53]. [Pg.322]

The current through an aromatic 4,4-di(phenylene-ethynylene)-benzenethiolate bonded to an Au(lll) surface is larger than that through an aliphatic n-dodecanethiolate bonded to the same substrate (Fig. 1). [Pg.1527]

Activation of nuclear factor-xB is necessary for the induction of both TNF-a and Mn superoxide dismutase mRNAs by LPS (White et al. 2000). Neither hypoxia (1 % O2,5 % CO2, and 94 % N2) nor di-phenylene iodonium (0.5 to 5 pM) had any effect on LPS activation of nuclear factor-xB in human monocytes (White and Tsan 2001). Treatment of human alveolar macrophages with LPS, polymeric-and secretory-IgA, but not 12-0-tetradecanoyl-phorbol-13-acetate, induced NF-xB activation through IxBa phosphorylation and subsequent proteolysis (Ouadrhiri et al. 2002). [Pg.371]

Microglia, when stimulated by phorbol ester or opsonified zymosan, gave rise to electron paramagnetic resonance spectra characteristic of superoxide (Sankarapandi etal. 1998). Experiments performed in the presence of superoxide dismutase, catalase, deferoxamine, and dimethyl sulfoxide excluded generation of hydroxyl radicals in significant amounts. Microglial superoxide generation was blocked by the NADPH oxidase inhibitor di-phenylene iodonium in a manner similar to that... [Pg.485]
