The former are due to agents which are oxidized under the conditions of the B.T. reaction. The latter are agents which can alter the pH of the alkaline B.T. reaction mixture thereby decreasing the extent of color formation. Blepharitis is a topical inflammation of the eyelid margins that should be treated using topical antibacterial agents. Gentamicin eye ointment is preferred to the fusidic acid drops since the ointment is a better formulation to be used where the condition involves the eyelid margins. Chloramphenicol eye drops is the third option since it is an antibiotic with a wider spectrum of activity. A combination of corticosteroid and antibiotic is not recommended because of the side-effects associated with the steroid. The use of oral tablets is not usually recommended since blepharitis can easily be managed with topical drops. The use of dexamethasone eye drops, monotherapy steroid, could clear the inflammation but mask persistence of infection.

Sample preparation One tablet (0.25 mg digoxin) + 5 mL acetone ethanol 9 1 containing 0.11826 mg dexamethasone, sonicate 5 min, centrifuge at 1400 g for 5 min, evaporate supernatant under vacuum, dissolve residue in 100 pL MeOH, ii ject 0.2 pL aliquots. 

A 34-year-old man rapidly developed intense pain in the left eye accompanied by photophobia and blurred vision after taking levocetirizine for allergic rhinitis, the last dose having been taken on the evening before the onset of the symptoms. There was bulbar conjunctivitis and impaired visual acuity (8/10 vision). The symptoms resolved within 4 days of treatment with topical dexamethasone sodium phosphate 1 mg/ml qds, with full recovery of visual acuity and no signs of iridocyclitis or bulbar conjunctivitis. Ten days later, he took another tablet of levocetirizine and had the same symptoms on the next morning, with the same course as before. 

A case of Stevens-Johnson syndrome was reported in an HIV patient receiving TMP-SMX treatment (two doublestrength tablets three times per day) for presumed pneumocystic pneumonia. Ten days following treatment, the pahent developed typical symptoms of the Stevens-Johnson syndrome and the TMP-SMX was withdrawn. Treatment with dexamethasone led to improvement of the symptoms within 8days [145 ].
