Deterioration exhibited

Foams prepared from phenol—formaldehyde and urea—formaldehyde resins are the only commercial foams that are significantly affected by water (22). Polyurethane foams exhibit a deterioration of properties when subjected to a combination of light, moisture, and heat aging polyester-based foam shows much less hydrolytic stabUity than polyether-based foam (50,199). [Pg.415]

The relative abundance of neutral SiH and H2 species have been measured as a function of power, pressure, flow rate, and dilution. For low power levels, eg, 5 W, up to 50% of the SiH gas is dissociated and the percentage increases to 80% for a power of 50 W. The decomposition of SiH gas proceeds more readily with lower flow rates. These observations, coupled with infrared (ir) measurements performed on the films, suggest that deposition under conditions in which the silane gas is not entirely decomposed leads to a majority of SiH units, whereas those deposited under conditions in which silane is strongly dissociated contain a majority of dihydride units leading to a deterioration of the semiconductor. Also, when the dwell time of SiH in the plasma region increases, the resultant film exhibits a pronounced peak at 2090 cm from the ir spectra corresponding to S1H2 inclusion. [Pg.358]

This boron- and carbon-doped SiC exhibits excellent strength and stiffness, extreme hardness, and thermal and chemical resistance. The strength of this system is not affected by temperatures up to I650°C. Creep is virtually nonexistent up to I400°C. CycHc durabiUty testing conducted at I370°C in air showed no deterioration of strength after 3500 h (94). [Pg.466]

Corrosion resistance of stainless steel is reduced in deaerated solutions. This behavior is opposite to the behavior of iron, low-alloy steel, and most nonferrous metals in oxygenated waters. Stainless steels exhibit very low corrosion rates in oxidizing media until the solution oxidizing power becomes great enough to breach the protective oxide locally. The solution pH alone does not control attack (see Chap. 4, Underdeposit Corrosion ). The presence of chloride and other strong depassivating chemicals deteriorates corrosion resistance. [Pg.103]

The finished mouldings have high dimensional stability, low water absorption and good resistance to tracking. They also exhibit good heat resistance and mouldings cU e said to have withstood temperatures of 200 C without undue deterioration. [Pg.775]

Amorphous silicon modules experience a conversion efficiency loss of about 10 percent when initially exposed to sunlight, but then stabilize at the reduced figure. The mechanism for this reduction is being actively investigated, but is still not well understood. Individual modules made with other PV materials do not exliibit such loss of conversion efficiency, but combinations of modules in arrays do exhibit systematic reductions in power output over their lifetimes. Estimated at about 1 percent per year on average, based on data to date, these reductions are most likely associated with deteriorating electrical connections and non-module electrical components. [Pg.1059]

The capacity of an anode is dependent on the anode current density. To some extent it will be governed by the exposure environment but, in part, is within the control of the design. Certainly wholly unsuitable current densities can usually be avoided. At lower operating current densities some anodes exhibit reduced capacity this is shown in Fig. 10.17. Long periods of low operating current density can lead to passivation. This may result in failure to activate when the current demand increases (as can occur with anodes on coated structures when the coating deteriorates). [Pg.147]

Butyl rubber, halogenated butyl rubber linings and ethylene propylene rubber linings have excellent chemical resistance at temperatures up to 120°C. There are cases where butyl rubber linings have been subjected to temperatures down to —65°C without deterioration. Linings based on these polymers do not exhibit good abrasion resistance, which can only be rated as fair. [Pg.944]

This method has been successfully applied to production-line control for over 2 years, without a single case of quality deterioration attributable to underblanching in products exhibiting a negative test during production. [Pg.33]

The other well-characterized metal (i.e., iridium) for trans-addition processes to terminal alkynes suffers from similar limitations.55,5511 53f While iridium provides good selectivity for (Z)-/3-vinylsilanes (Table 4, G) with MePh2SiH (Table 4, entry 1), silanes with electron withdrawing groups (entry 6) and bulky alkynes (entry 4) exhibit significant deterioration in selectivity.25... [Pg.797]

The heat stability of P.O.73 is good, but deteriorates somewhat in white reductions. The pigment exhibits good weatherfastness, but performs poorer in this respect than P.R.254 and P.R.264. [Pg.491]

While CCSD and especially CCSD(T) are known [36] to be less sensitive to nondynamical correlation effects than low-order perturbation theoretical methods, some sensitivity remains, and deterioration of W1 and W2 results is to be expected for systems that exhibit severe nondynamical correlation character. A number of indicators exist for this, such as the T diagnostic of Lee and Taylor [64], the size of the largest amplitudes in the converged CCSD wavefunction, and natural orbital occupations of the frontier orbitals. [Pg.56]

According to current PDA guidelines, an acceptable pharmaceutical product should exhibit less than 10% deterioration after 2 years.5 Protein biopharmaceuticals usually have to be stored under refrigerated conditions or freeze dried to achieve an acceptable shelf life. EL IS As for aggregates and product variants as discussed previously would be applicable for determining shelf life. [Pg.294]

Dietary intervention with crude MegaNatural-AZ grape seed extract significantly reduced (by 30-50%) Alzheimer s disease-type cognitive deterioration in mice by prevention of amyloid formation in the brain [8]. However, it is essential to determine which components of the extract exhibited bioactivity in the transgenic... [Pg.40]
