Design process, engineering evaluation stage

In the engineering development stage, a practical and workable design is developed. Prototype samples are produced on equipment located at the Technical Center that duplicates the production process to be used. A portion of the materials evaluation work is also performed at this time. Candidate materials are given performance tests and moldability is analyzed in detail. Cost and reliability factors are also considered at this time. 

All in all, the flowsheet editor FEW is a promising new approach to chemical process design in the early stages because it offers new, meaningful functions and integrates different tools. However, without improving the interaction-related usability issues, the task-related new concept cannot be evaluated in a realistic scenario with experienced chemical process engineers. 

Other organizations and writers have also developed engineering design process flowcharts. Most of these flowcharts have similar characteristics. ITEAs 12 components are explained in three stages concept, development, and evaluation. Each stage contains four design steps. 

When considering the possibility of using internal combustion drivers, evaluate process requirements and costs. If a low-cost, gaseous fuel is available, gas engines and gas turbines may surpass other drivers in economical installation and operation. In the initial process design stage, a method of establishing the cost of purchase, installation, and operation for drivers is needed.
