Design of a land reclamation see Chapter

For design and construct projects, the functional requirements must be specified. It is strongly advised to split-up the reclamation area into various sub-areas based on the future function and use of these areas. This results in a cost-effective design compared with the traditional approach where the entire reclamation should have the same performance requirements. For instance, when designing a reclamation for an airport, the area underneath the runways will have more stringent requirements compared to, for instance, areas reserved as separation zones or car parking. [Pg.453]

The reclamation shall be constructed within the boundaries indicated on the contract Drawings. This includes x-y coordinates, design levels, slopes, etc. Vertical and horizontal tolerances should also be specified. [Pg.454]

Final reclamation levels shall be as shown on the Drawings subject to permitted tolerances of +/- xxx mm. [Pg.454]

Horizontal tolerances are less common in reclamation specifications, since these generally relate to the boundary structures, such as embankments or quay walls. [Pg.454]

Bearing capacity and slope stability requirements can be translated into technical requirements by specifying the fill material properties such as required angle of internal friction or shear strength. Since the friction angle is not easy to measure in the field, often a correlation with other parameters such as the Relative Density, degree of compaction or the Cone Resistance is used. [Pg.454]
