Derrick definition

Falls in the workplace are the leading cause of death to workers this also includes workers within the Service Industry. Thus, the need for fall protection in workplaces when workers are performing their jobs is definitely a requirement. Fall protection must be provided so that workers can concentrate on the job tasks without any fear of falling. Requirements relating to fall protection, as described in this chapter, do not apply to scaffolds, cranes and derricks, ladders and stairways, or electrical power transmission and distribution, each of which has its own requiranents. The major components of fall protection, described herein, are for installation, construction, and proper use of body harnesses and belts, lanyards, and lifelines, and the reqnire-ments for the training of fall protection. 

Some of the options involve proximity alarms or insulating links/devices. Proximity Alarms At this time, because no current proximity alarms meet the NRTL requirements as stated in the 1926.1401 definition for proximity alarm, employers may not rely on any proximity alarm to comply with the requirements in 29 CFR 1926 Subparl CC. However, if a Compliance Safety and Health Officer (CSHO) encounters a crane/derrick in construction using a proximity alarm in conjunction with a properly implemented additional measure such as using a dedicated spotter" or range control warning device from 1926.1407(b)(3) or. 1408(b)(4), then no citation is to be issued for violation of either 1926.1407(b)(3)(ii) or. 1408(b)(4)(i), including situations where voltages are over 350 kV as referenced in 1926.1409.
