Depletion number

Resource depletion may cause environmental change. By reducing resource depletion, we can reduce ongoing environmental transformation. We may quantify the resource depletion by the Depletion number Dp, which is a nondimen-sional indicator ExDp per unit consumption Exc 

Biological systems have evolved to allow sustainable consumption to occur with little or no depletion. Therefore, the depletion number provides a measure of system progress or maturity, and is a useful basis for studying the evolution of industrial resource use patterns and the implementation of resource conservation strategies. The depletion number is a function of three indicators showing the level of implementation of resource conservation strategies  

The above equation expresses the depletion number as a function of a system s structural constants, the exergy efficiency and renewed exergy fraction of the individual resource upgrade processes, and the extent of resource cycling.
