Dents definition

In this chapter, it will be described how we have utilized endogenous and engineered Zn2+ binding sites to explore the structure and molecular function of Na+/Cl -depen-dent neurotransmitter transporters. The work has not only allowed the definition of the first structural constraints in the tertiary structure of this class of transporters, but also provided new insight into both conformational changes accompanying substrate translocation and mechanisms governing conformational isomerization in the translocation cycle. In the chapter, we will also review the theoretical and practical basis for... [Pg.193]

Altitude Response. Pressure response is an issue that needs to be addressed for every instrument deployed on an aircraft. First, it must be decided how chemical abundances are to be reported. If standard practice is followed and they are reported as mixing ratios, then it must be determined whether the instrument is fundamentally a mass- or a concentration-depen-dent sensor, because this definition determines the first-order means by which instrument response is converted to mixing ratios as a function of pressure. In this context, a mass-sensitive detector is a device with an output signal that is a function of the mass flow of analyte molecules a concentration-sensitive detector is one in which the response is proportional to the absolute concentration, that is, molecules per cubic centimeter. [Pg.115]

Dent s classification is the basis of most classifications of abnormal types of amino aciduria. He divides the pathological conditions into three categories (D9) (A) Overflow amino aciduriain which the blood level of the amino acid concerned is definitely raised above normal [example Section 4.2.1.L (a)] (B) Renal amino aciduria, in which case the blood level is either normal or below normal, and yet the urinary excretion is above normal [tubular reabsorption deficiency example Section 4.2.I.I. (e)] (C) No threshold amino aciduria, in which Dent attributes the condition to an extrarenal disturbance of the metabolism of an amino acid with a high blood clearance, and in which, on account of this latter circumstance, the corresponding blood level may stay normal or is hardly increased. [Pg.229]

[Pg.101]

A real problem with specifying the impact properties on a product is to define what is a failure. The designer has to decide, for example, to what degree a surface condition, dent, bend, breakage, or shatter will be defined as a failure. Thus, the failure of a product can take many forms. There are situations, for instance, in which excessive elastic deformation will constitute failure. In turn, the definition of failure has to be related to impact testing s results. [Pg.220]

Dent and Kohes (27) proposed a definite bond between propylene and zinc oxide, infrared spectroscopy being used to study the sorption process. A series of articles by Gil-Av et al. (28-31) demonstrated the use of stationary phases containing silver nitrate to separate saturated and unsaturated compounds. [Pg.26]

Dexamethasone has been used to diminish the inflammatory injury which contributes to the chronic lung disease in oxygen- and ventilator-depen-dent neonates with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) (22,23). The use of corticosteroids in high doses would seem to create an additional risk for infection in these vulnerable children. There does not appear to be any definite increase in risk for the development of nosocomial LRI in dexamethasone-treated neonates (22-25). [Pg.205]

The indentation process and the over-rolling of the doit has dioi been simulated. From these simulations, a physically based endurance limit criteria focused on the dent, noted HI I, has been calculated for various dents. The comparison of experimental data widi numerical results shows that this criteria can be used as definition of the local endurance limit. [Pg.308]
