Deflection function definition

A new-generation RDD has been announced to be under development as a joint effort of the Texas A M Transportation Institute (TTI), the Texas Department of Transportation, the Center for Transportation Research at The University of Texas and Industrial Vehicles International. The device is called Total Pavement Acceptance Device (TPAD), also known as the RDD. The TPAD is a multi-function device that integrates a deflection-measuring system with GPR and high-definition video imaging of pavements (TTI 2013) (see Figure 16.52).

The MID is the sensor in an Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system. The ACC position sensor assists in propulsion-unit control. It is definitive in terms of the quality of the radar signal shaped by the rotation of a metallic drum. The drum has a defined surface structure and deflects the radar beam as a function of position.
