Defect classification actions

Because the system is meant to be used for a variety of heat exchangers we could not use a simple (ANN) classifier, but we chose for a CBR type system. The case-base stores signal shapes with corresponding classifications or actions to be taken (e.g. signal mixing). Beftxe each inspection the case-base is filled with data from calibration pipes oc a case-base from a previous similar inspection can be used. For each new possible defect signal a search is done in the case base for the most similar case. 

Written in advance, the test plan defines all test procedures with their pass/fail criteria, expected test results, test tasks, test environment for equipment and computers, criteria for acceptance and release to manufacturing, and the persons responsible for conducting these tests. The test plan also specifies those functions excluded from testing, if any. Individual tasks cover functional testing, simulation of incomplete functions as integration proceeds, mathematical proof of results, records of discrepancies, classification of defects and corrective actions. 

The Pareto chart is a tool to help focus quality improvement efforts. It is useful whenever general classifications of problems, errors, defects, customer feedback, and so on can be classified for further study and actions. Often a few (the vital few ) classifications dominate the problem of interest while all the rest (the useful many ) contribute only a small proportion. To improve a process, it is important to find out which are the vital few problem areas.
